Guillaume-Henri
Dufour from Switzerland
This emblem from Geneva, is
assigned to the general Guillaume-Henri Dufour, that reduced the Swiss cantons'
revolt in 1847.
It represents the military strength: the red of the right field shows strength
and the impetus; the silvery (here in grey) on the left field indicates serenity
and nobility. A star of gold (in blue) and two knight axes crossed decorate the
escutcheon.
The lineage of Guillaume-Henri Dufour is specially present in Switzerland.
Dufourspitze (in
German), Pointe Dufour (in
French) or Punta Dufour (in
Italian), is located in the
Pennine
Alps, near the watershed between
Italy and
Switzerland, on the Italian side. Some consider it the highest
mountain of
Switzerland and the peak is the high point of the
Monte Rosa
massif, being
surrounded by the
Nordend,
Silbersattel,
Grenzsattel and
Signalkuppe subpeaks.
The mountain is named after Guillaume-Henri Dufour—a Swiss engineer and army officer who led the Sonderbund campaign—following the completion of the Dufourkarten, a series of military topographical maps created under the command of Dufour. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dufourspitze
